05 / Thermal MPM · state variables

The temperature falls. The history stays.

Heat the left end for four time units, then cool it. Compare reversible softening with a retained processing state across the same strip.

The top strip shows the temperature field; the second shows reversible stiffness; the third shows an irreversible conversion. After the heater turns off, temperature and softening can recover while conversion remains. A surface can finish processing while the core is still cold.

Equations and model boundary
∂T/∂t = κ ∂²T/∂x² − γ(T − 300)
E(T)/E₀ = clamp(1 − (T−300)/200, 0.05, 1)
ċ = k(T)(1−c), k(T) ≥ 0

A static 1D diffusion experiment, with the native MAT_THERMAL softening law evaluated in kelvin. The conversion kinetics and heating schedule are illustrative, not a particular native material preset. Latent heat, deformation, shell expansion, pressure generation and fracture are discussed in the brochure rather than silently simulated here.
