Flatland — Light Transport

Reduce light transport to a plane so individual paths and their weights stay visible. The Ruby/Raylib desktop laboratory has broader inspection tools; the browser runs the corrected Ruby core for PT, direct-light MIS, light tracing and finite-radius photon mapping.

  1. ↗

    Launch a path

Begin at a camera or light and retain the sampled decisions.

  2. ∠

    Connect or gather

Follow surface interactions, explicit connections and nearby photon contributions.

  3. p

    Account for the weight

Use the plane's angular measures and include unsuccessful launched paths.

  4. ▥

    Build the sensor

Compare accumulated one-dimensional images and estimator behavior.

A small scene makes normalization and estimator differences visible; photon gathering retains finite-radius bias.
